Topping Out Ceremony at the National Stadium in Warsaw
January 4th was the deadline for the stadium building consortium comprising ALPINE, Hydrobudowa Polska and PBG to reach the third milestone for the project. As was always the case before, the deadline has been met.
On Tuesday, representatives of Narodowe Centrum Sportu, the project owner, officially confirmed the successful completion of the big lift, which involved lifting a net of steel cables with a total length of over 70 kilometres and a 70-metre spire whose top was positioned at 100 metres over the stadium pitch. The operation represented a technological challenge and a globally unique undertaking. During the topping out ceremony on Tuesday, the construction crew members were congratulated by important figures, including Donald Tusk, the Polish Prime Minister.
The roof lift was the last milestone for the National Stadium construction project which, if not reached on time, could have given rise to the imposition of penalties on the general contractor. The next and ultimate milestone is the completion of the stadium construction scheduled for July 30th 2010.
