Collectors under the Vistula River
Companies from the Hydrobudowa Polska Group signed a contract for the execution of the next construction stage of the Czajka sewage treatment plant transfer collectors, including a tunnel beneath the Vistula River. The order’s net value is almost 145 million PLN.
The task will be carried out by a consortium headed by Przedsiębiorstwo Robót Górniczych Metro, a subsidiary of Hydrobudowa Polska. The contract valued at 144,8 million PLN (gross value of 176,6 million PLN) was signed with the Warsaw MPWiK on Thursday, the 22nd of July 2010. PRG Metro’s partners in the execution of the contract are: Hydrobudowa Polska, Hydrobudowa 9 (also members of the HBP Group) as well as Infra.
The signed contract regards the final construction stage of the sewage transfer system from left bank Warsaw to the Czajka sewage treatment plant. We wish to remind that the first stage of the investment, with a value of 52,8 million Euro, encompassing the construction of nearly 6 km of collectors on the right side of the Vistula River, is currently being carried out by Hydrobudowa 9, PRG Metro and KWG.
The new contract covers, among other things, the construction of a 1,4 km tunnel under the Vistula River, approximately 10 meters beneath the bottom of the river. The tunnel’s casing will be made out of reinforced concrete tubbing incorporating a modern, mechanized TBM discs. The tunnel’s outer diameter will be over 5 meters. The Consortium is obliged to complete the contract’s execution by the end of the year 2011.
– Winning the bid over the “crossing under the Vistula” opens new possibilities in the HBP Group Companies development strategy. It is associated with introducing tunnel drilling technologies incorporating TBM discs used in the construction of communication tunnels such as metro or railway tunnels – points out Szymon Tamborski, vice-chairman of Hydrobudowa Polska.
Execution of the transfer system and development and modernization of the Czajka Sewage Treatment Plant will allow treatment of sewage from the center and northern parts of Warsaw as well as neighboring districts. Thanks to this undertaking, the treatment plant’s throughput will be nearly doubled and all the sewage created in the city will be treated, which will significantly increase the water quality in the Vistula River.
