A milestone is reached on the National Stadium

On Friday, three weeks before the deadline agreed upon with the Ordering Party, the first key objective of the National Stadium construction in Warsaw was reached.

The main steel construction that will hold the line roof of the National Stadium is ready. The last element out of 72 elements of the inner ring truss surrounding the arena pan was assembled on Friday. The ring is supported by 72 poles, each with the height of about 30 metres. This way the first key objective (so called ‘milestone’) was reached in the construction of the largest stadiums being currently built in Poland for Euro 2012.

The General Contractor of the National Stadium, Alpine – Hydrobudowa Polska – PBG consortium, together with cooperating subcontractors, manages to make up for the time lost due to severe and long winter. It is worth mentioning that according to an expertise carried out by the Polish Union of Civil Engineers and Technicians the influence of difficult conditions that were observed last winter could result in the delay of construction deadlines by 97 days in total. The Investor, National Sport Centre, agreed to postpone the deadline established for the completion of main steel construction by 57 days setting its new deadline on 31 July. The fact that the contractors mobilized themselves, perfectly organised and coordinated works helped to complete the key objective three weeks before that date.

The construction of reinforced concrete pan of the stadium will also be completed soon. Prefabricated stands will not be assembled later than in July. The assembly of other elements of the steel construction, bells and girders, is also well prepared. Girders are the longest as almost 60-metre long elements, which are integrated in the building site, near the place of assembly.

The National Stadium in Warsaw will be completed in the middle of the next year. The contract provides for two key middle deadlines i.e. in November 2010 the basic heating installation is to be activated, therefore, it will be possible to continue installation and finishing works inside the structure, and in January 2011 the line roof construction is due to be spread.
